Iberia Airlines

What about Ireria Airlines in Spain? Has anyone flown on this airline before. What was your experience? Do they not have assigned seating?

We have reservations on 3/30 but have not flown before. They are having strikes on Mon and Friday of each week right now. I do know that they have assigned seating but you have to pay for it. I think it was about $13 per seat.

Iberia is quite good. We flew to Venice on it recently.

Joyce Check to see how many flghts per day from Denver (?) to Europe they have on Iberia. From Chicago, they only have one per day. My flight was canceled due to mechanical problems and all of the passengers were transfered to the next day's flight. BUT, of course, there was almost a full flight the next day. The Iberia gate agents were not helpful in getting passengers on other airlines' flights still going out the same afternoon/evening. Oh, and they wouldn't take the luggage off the plane so the hotel stay was not fun. So just saying, if there is only 1 flight per day, you may lose an entire day from your trip. I know all of the airlines are flying mostly full but at least there is a chance you can get on one of the more numerous flghts of a US airline. So something to think about. Bobbie

Flew them once from DC to Rome. An evening flight was delayed well over 12 hours. They did not inform us and the delay was not shown on their website. We were unable to give 24 hours notice to the hotel. When we tried to contact Iberia, to request reimbursement for the night's hotel fee, they never responded. Flight, when it finally left, was okay, but certainly not to the standards of Air France or British. I will try to avoid them for any future flights!!!!

its not bad. they do have assigned seats, but mine was assigned a number not on that flight. but in the end they were able to get me a seat, so it was ok. comparable services as any domestic flights econ class.

I haven't flown with Iberia, but I will share that their check-in counter for the first flights of the day out of Madrid Barajas had a line several hundred people deep at 6 am when I last flew out of there. My line (Swiss) had just four people in it waiting for the counter to open. Just a little something to consider since Madrid is the big hub for Iberia...it's always going to be busy, and you'll need to plan accordingly. I don't know if they're always quite that busy, but it was ridiculous that day.

Hi Joyce, I've flown Iberia since I was a child (40's now) Last time I flew was 2 years ago on a trip to Madrid. They are still a great airline. Our flight was on time, the staff was friendly and gracious and the food was a lot better than what you would get on a domestic airline.
I will continue to fly Iberia if given the choice between then and another airline.

I flew Iberia from Miami to Madrid just a couple weeks ago. Not bad. Didn't really enjoy the food, but hey, it kept me from starving. I found it to be solid, professional service.

Just flew on Iberia on the 16th from LAX to MAD. When I checked in 24 hrs prior to departure I was able to choose our seats wuth no problems & was able to seat the 6 of us together in 3 rows of 2. And on 3 separate reservations. Food was good & seat's were ok. As far as the strike, the Iberia web site will post any affected flights abiut a week in advance. Ours fell on a strike date but was not affected, I called the airline just to be sure & was told that most international flights are not involved in the strike.
