I saw some 2007 postings, but I wonder if anyone has more recent feedback about where to stay in/around Stuttgart. I'll be there in late November 2008. I need somplace with good access to the airport (early flight), and I haven't found anyplace that looks really interesting to stay. The best options on my list seem to be Pension am Heusteig and Flair Hotel Woertz zur Weinsteige. Can anyone help? Pensions or small family-run hotels preferred. Thanks.

We stayed at the Hotel Astoria in Stuttgart last January. It's very convenient to the S-Bahn that goes to the airport, shopping, and they had a great breakfast. It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station. We also had an early morning flight. It's not fancy but it was convenient and the price was right.

The night before flying out of Stuttgart, we stayed south of Stuttgart in the little town of Herrenberg at Pension Kirchgasse. Herrenberg is only 35 min by S-Bahn from the airport. Pension Kirchgasse is right on the picturesque town square, which is surrounded by fachwerk buildings. Karin Förster, who runs the pension, speaks excellent English.
