I need help with travel insurance! - Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris

I will be flying to Amsterdam, taking the train to Brussels, day trip to Bruges, and then finally to Paris for a tour in December. From Paris, I will fly back to the states. (12 days total ) I'm on a budget, but would like to have some coverage such as medical and in case of airplane/train strikes ....I checked Travelguard, and they asked for the date the initial deposit was made to determine the quote. I will be leaving in a month, and the deposit was made many months ago. Is it going to be more expensive since it's so close to the departure date? I didn't really consider travel insurance until I've heard about the strike in Paris and I'm changing my mind. Please advise on the type of insurance! Thanks

I've used Travel Insured International before. I don't know how good they are regarding claims because I've never had to make one (yet) but we I get a discount through my bank with them so I've used them before. Sorry I can't be more help but definitely check them out.

See www.insuremytrip.com. On that site you can compare policies from numerous companies at one time and choose coverage that is exactly what you want. You might find something that suits your budget better, or gives you the coverages you want without extras that you don't want to pay for.

www.insuremytrip.com is helpful. You might want to verify whether the Paris strikes are considered a "pre-existing condition" not covered by the insurance, if that is a main reason for getting the insurance.

They ask for 15 days after deposit date to get the extra coverage (some of the bagage stuff) - but the medical or other insurance should be covered regardless. Im not sure if the price is more/less as you get closer - just some of the "extra" benefits (this is on TravelGuard but not sure about others).

Check out Mediject Assist too - they have a year long membership or a trip-based.

For the record, I have had good luck with Travel Guard insurance. In 2005 I insured my flight to London and also the cruise trip out of Southhamton. When I got to Heathrow Airport late, I missed my transportation to the port and had to take a Black Cab which cost me $ 400. I kept good receipts, and Travel Guard reimbursed me.
