Now in Baden Baden and have enjoyed Normandy, Paris, and three days of this GAS tour. Band of Bros Tour was amazing as well as all of Battlebus info. Also spent several hrs with Jo and hubby in Frankfurt doing a walking tour of a wonderful city. Thanks Jo. Off to Murren and the Alps tomorrow and maybe a hang glide if weather is nice on Fri. Doing some on your own and combining with a R/S tour has been wonderful so far. Still 11 days to go.
Tony - sounds like you are having a great time. You will love the Alps and Muerren.
I just came back and I am already planning to go back next year!
Tony - Glad to here everything is going well. Did you get a chance to stop by the D-Day cemetery?
Safe travels.
Just for a bit of information, the Battlebus tours always stop at the American cemetery. If you do the 2 day American Experience tour, you also stop at the German cemetery. The British Cemetery is in Bayeux, but I do not know where the Canadian cemetery is.
Glad to hear the next phase of your trip is going well Tony. Hope the weather holds.
Jo,
There are cemeteries throughout that area, but the main Canadian cemetery is at Beny-sur-Mer. The location is not exactly as implied by the name, it's actually about 16 kM inland from the landing beach (I believe Bernieres-sur-Mer is about the centre of the landing site, but Juno Beach extended from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer to Courseulles-sur-Mer).
It's smaller than the U.S. cemetery above Omaha Beach, but also a moving site to visit (especially for Canadians).
Cheers!
Tony,
Glad to hear that you're having a great time. Just curious, who was your Guide on the BattleBus tour?
I was in the Berner Oberland at about this time of year on my last visit, and really anxious to return! If the weather is decent, you'll enjoy the trip to the Schilthorn. If you're "adventurous", you could also try Paragliding from Murren. It's awesome to float past the edge of the cliff and suddenly be looking 3000 feet straight down!
If you get a chance to get down to Gimmelwald, have a quick look at the Pensione Gimmelwald. I believe it's open under new management since I was there last, but I don't have much information on it (aside from the website). Others here might be interested for "future reference". While in Gimmelwald, be sure to stop by Hotel Mittaghorn for a beer.
Cheers!
