hut to hut in Jungfrau area

I've been preparing for some hut to hut walking via Kev Reynold's books. He recommends "phoning ahead" to the refuge or pensione that exit on the trails themselves in order to reserve a place. Since I don't exactly know how far I'll get in a day, does anyone have experience with phoning one day ahead or morning of? I'll be traveling between June 13th-20th.
Any other advice regarding bedding appreciated.

Are you thinking of the S.A.C. huts, or private mountain inns? We have only stayed in the latter, and we reserved well in advance. You will definitely need to call ahead to make sure there is space before counting on a particular place at the end of the day. The huts provide blankets and usually a pillow, but you need to carry a sleepsack and I take a pillowcase. You also need hut shoes/slippers as boots are left in cubbies by the door. You should also find out if cash payment is required so you can bring enough cash along.
Have you looked through the S.A.C. website? Thought about membership?

Hi-
Thanks, I will look on the S.A.C. website. Here's what I mean. Hiking up to first, stopping at Weber Hut (Berghutte Manndlenen) or Berhotel faulhorn. Are these this private or S.A.C.?

Those are both privately owned. Faulhorn is a Berghotel: http://www.berghotel-faulhorn.ch/ I've had lunch at both, but not spent the night. Faulhorn is better located; Weber is in a pretty bleak area among the rocks. I can't recall any views from there but it was 12 years ago. Most S.A.C huts are not on through-routes; they are situated to provide overnight accommodation for climbers, so are at the base of peaks or glaciers. The path up is often a dead-end path. Of course there are exceptions; I believe Blumlisalphütte, on top of Höhtürli, is an S.A.C. hut. This is right on the Alpine Pass route between Kiental and Kandertal.

Thanks again. That's a very valuable/useful distinction to know. I'm going to try to contact the berg hotel faulhorn in the morning. I've got 6 nights booked out of Murren with one night in the middle I'm hoping to stay at Hotel Obersteinberg. I'm gonna call them too! I'm also thinking of the Suls Lobhorn hutte.

I am jealous!!! I've always wanted to hike up to Obersteinberg and spend the night. After Faulhorn, will you continue on the Panoramaweg to Schynigeplatte? Or drop back down to Grindelwald via Busalp? There is also the possibility of hiking over to grosse Scheidegg and down the other side to Schwartzwaldalp. There is a mountain inn there too. Or from the Faulhorn head over the ridge and down to Axalp, and on to Giessbach on the Brienzersee. So many places. . .

I was actually thinking of going in the direction of the platte to First and then make my way back down. I suppose I could get a bed in one of those placesyou know, not the private room type but one of those that looks like a bunch of sardines lined up...ahem. I wasn't certain how many hikes I would do out of Grindelwald because I am based in Murren and don't want to be on a train each day. For example, I will walk via tanzeboden to Obersteinberg, rather than getting down to Stechelberg first (which is how I went up last year, and that was great!). I think on my overnight at Obersteinberg (assuming I can get a place) I will also go to the Oberhornsee. Kev Reynolds talks highly of that Valley where the Suls Lobhorn hut is, and it looks like I could walk there if I took extra time, from Murren.
