Hut to hut hiking in Switzerland

I am hoping to plan a 4 to 7 day hiking trip in Switzerland this summer hiking hut to hut. I would appreciate input regarding routes and where to get information, either books or online. Thanks!

Hi Paula---my favorite books for this are "Walking Switzerland, the Swiss Way" by Marcia and Philip Lieberman, and "Switzerland's Mountain Inn", also by the Liebermans (a bit dated but still good information on the mountain inns, which are a bit nicer than huts).

Also two by Kev Reynolds: "100 Hut Walks in the Alps" (Cicerone Press) and "The Alpine Pass Route" which describes a route all the way across Switzerland on an east-west path, through most of the very scenic areas. You could use that to plan just a section of the walk, or do 2 separate shorter ones to sample different areas.

As for websites, I think MySwitzerland.com has some information and suggestions for multi-day hikes. But I like to start with the books to get ideas, and then research the specifics on the internet.

Muerren to Kandersteg on the Alpine Pass route is a nice 3-day wlak over 2 high passes---I wouldn't do that one alone. another nice 3-day would be from meringen up to Schwartwaldalp, over Grosse Scheidegg and on to the Faulhorn (google this to see a photo of the hotel, in a spectacular location). The continue on the Panorama Weg to Schynige Platte where you can take the train to your next starting point.
