I planning a one week trip hiking hut to hut in Austria beginning July 24, 2011 but have some questions. 1) Are reservations required or suggested? If so, how do I do that? 2) do I need a sleeping bag or just a sleep sack? Thanks
Bill,
I have done some hiking in Austria and they had huts for lunch and snacks but I am not sure if they offered a place to sleep. We took the gondola up from Maria Alm and hiked all over the area from hut to hut as a day activity. It was great! Maybe you could contact the visitor center in the town that you are planning on starting at and ask them for the information. I am thinking that Innsbruck may have some longer trips with huts. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
I believe sleep sacks raw required, and reservations are advised. Youo could check the Austrian Alpine Club website to be sure. The UK section has a website in English Www.aacuk.org
