I'm an au-pair who has had to leave my situation on a 2 day notice. I am flying on Tuesday Oct 16 @ 6am to France to my new family.I need to ship somehow my suitcase of unneeded items back to the USA. DHL will charge $550 so I am looking for a less expensive manner to get my things back to the USA - in no particlar hurry.The suitcase weighs about 43lbs.
Is there a baggage forwarding service at the airport? Can I mail my suitcase via the austrian mail? Please help me with any suggestions. Thank You so much!

It's been a few years, but when I lived in Salzburg you could mail a suitcase via Austrian mail. What most of my fellow students did, though, was ship it through the American Express office. I don't know if they offer this service anymore or not, but you could ask. At the time, it was cheaper than mailing it.

You may also want to divide up the items into 4 smaller boxes... I know Germany and Norway had "fixed" rates to USA - Norway had one 10kg for 80$ aprox, and in Gemrany (DHL) it was about 35$ for 5kg and 45$ for up to 10kg. Might be easier that way.
