My parents and I are going to France in June of next year and want to go to Spain afterwards. We will be in Paris for 4 days and spending a few days in Normandy:Giverny, Bayeux, Honfleur and Roeun. In Spain we want to see the true Spain, most likely: Madrid, Seville, Toledo and Barcelona. I don't think we can do it all in one week. Out of these four cities, which is the best too see in one week in your opinion? Thanks!!
IMO Madrid with a day or overnight trip to Toledo (less than 45 min. away by high speed train). This is the true heart of Spain and there is so much to see and do. Your week will be filled with incredible people, food and sights. Hasta la Vista!
Just what do you mean or expect by "true Spain." Southern Spain because of the Moorish influence is very different than most of western Europe. In my opinion the more interesting part of Spain is the south -- Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada, white hill towns, etc. Barcelona and Madrid will be similar to what you have seen in France. Barcelona is terrific because of the Gaudi influence and I would choice Barcelona over Madrid but as true Spain -- don't know. Just realized you have asked the same question twice with different titles. That just confuses everyone and doesn't allow for good consistent answers. The same question is under Barcelona or Sevilla in this section.
Limiting yourself to the regions of Spain that consist of Madrid and somewhat south of Madrid or Barcelona, then you should spend the entire week in Madrid and somewhat south of Madrid. There is so much more to Spain though. Like coming to the US and only seeing DC. Edwin
Agree with Bob -- Madrid with side trip to Toledo, but spend one night in Toledo at least.. two would be better! .1/2 hour via AVE train...recommend the Posada de Manolo, near the cathedral...location and faciltiies are top notch and give you a a great experience.
