How to spend 8 days in Austria?

Hello,
Would love to get some advice. My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Austria in June and are trying to figure out the best way to spend our time. We're thinking 3 Days in Vienna, 2 days in Salzburg (with stops along the way, and then either doing Innsbruck or a trip to Bavaria (then flying back from Munich). Which do you think would make for a better trip: Innusbruck and surrounding area or a Bavarian jaunt. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Alison

If you're looking for cheap, bare bones rooms, I'd highly recommend the Ruthensteiner too. Glad to hear it's still open.

I think you have a good plan Alison. Innsburck is beautiful, but so is the Bavarian lake district (which the train goes through), and you can see Ludwig's castles along the way (well worth it).

Hi Allison,

Innsbruck or Bavaria... it's a "blurred" line there as Innsbruck area could include places such as the Mittenwald area (Bavaria) just 45 minutes from Innsbruck. I'm partial to Mittenwald, so I'd highly recommend a stay there. It is in my opinion the postcard perfect Bavarian village with a mountain backdrop. As I mentioned, Innsbruck is close by, as are places like Garmisch (and the Zugspitze trip), Ettal Monestary, Ludwig's Linderhof Palace, etc.

Alison, just got back from a 9 day trip in March. We only had a short time in Innsbruck, but I think it's worth a day. Sacher Cafe is down the street from the Golden Roof. Garmisch, Berchtesgaden, Mittenwald, all are nice and worth a little time if you have it. Salzburg 2 days is enough, Vienna 3 days is good, and Bratislava is less than an hour away to the east and the old city is a good walk through. There is a little stand near Stephansdom in Vienna with great Kase Kreiner, or cheese sausage, wish I had some now. Not too far out of Salzburg is a little town called Kuchl. Nice place, Gasthof Muhlthaler is a great place to stay, good food, and English speaking host and hostess. Enjoy the trip.
