We drove from Paris, stopped in Honfleur and then on to Bayeaux. Next day drove to beaches in morning, explored. Afternoon, wandered Bayeaux. Went back to Paris next.day. what I remember is we should have had a bettter.map for day one and the day would have been much better! After Honfleur I.thought we'd head down the coast and it would be easy. The return trip into Paris was horrible. Long and.there was a ton of traffic into Paris and it was so confusing and my husband is a master city driver but we can't read French!

Brendon, If you just want to "see" Omaha and Utah beaches etc, you can rent a car in Bayeux. Another option would be to use Bayeux as a "home base" and take one of the excellent day tours available in that area. If you're interested, post another note and I'll provide website information. The American Cemetery above Omaha Beach is also a very important site to visit. There's an excellent Museum in Bayeux, and while there you could also see the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Happy travels!

Brendon, I appreciate you have your stay organized in Honfleur. If I were planning it from now I would ensure that I stayed in Bayeux instead. Its much more central to everything you want to see, and as Ken has said so well just above, has loads of other must sees right there to occupy you into the evening. It has a really nice atmosphere, too, and is just minutes (by motor) to the coast and Arromanches with the remnants of the floating harbour.

I have driven in Paris a few times, but it is beastly. I would echo the comments about staying in Bayeux and then renting a car. Another alternative would be to stay in Courbevoie, which is on the far west edge of Paris, near La Defense. This would give easy access to the motorway. We have stayed in this area and were able to rent a car almost directly across the street from our hotel. Courbevoie is at the very end of the metro / RER and is a cute non-tourist area. We are frequently in Paris, but almost always use the metro system. Good Luck, Mike W.
