You should be able to find a ferry from southwest Scotland to Northern Ireland and then from the Republic of Ireland to France. Don't expect it to be quick.

You could take a train from a point in Scotland to Newcastle and an overnight ferry from there to Amsterdam. Then you could take a train to Paris. For Edinburgh-Paris both the fastest and cheapest route is either Edinburgh-CDG on easyJet or Edinburgh-Beauvais on Ryanair. Be aware that Beauvais is a 90-minute bus ride from Paris.

Rosie, Are you going to be near Edinburgh? Here's another alternative to consider. This ferry link goes from Rosyth to Zeebrugge (Belgium), where you can go by train to Brussels Midi. It's not a regional train. At Brussels Midi take the TGV to Paris. That should make up for the time going from Zeebrugge to Brussels.

Rosyth-Zeebrugge is now lorries only - no car or foot passenger service.
