We are arriving in Bayeux by train on a Saturday afternoon, staying in Bayeux itself, and heading out with a Battlebus tour the next morning. The tour starts in st mere Eglise in the morning on a Sunday. I was trying to find some way to avoid renting a car that will sit idle most of the time. Is there a way to get to st mere and back without a rental car?
Joan, I was under the impression that Battlebus was no longer in business but the guides were running their own companies. When I toured with Battlebus they picked us up in Bayeux, if you're going with their new company DDay Historian they do pick up in Bayeux, put if you need to get the St Mere Eglise a taxi will probably be your best option, however I recommend you contact the tour company and verify who they are and where they pick up the clients, and also check to see what they recommend if you do have to go to St Mere Eglese.
Given the distance between St. Mère Église and Bayeux, I would imagine a taxi will be very expensive. You might find it more economical to rent a car for the day. Or find a tour that departs in Bayeux. There are many tour compannies that depart from Bayeux.
Ellwood Von Siebold is running tours under the name D day Battletours. Unfortunately, they do not pick up in Bayeux, so if I stay with them I need to rent a car. Thanks for the help.
Perhaps things have changed, but according to the D-Day Battle Tours site, you can be picked up in Bayeux for a fee of €50.
