I will have my own vehicle. I was thinking of going to Venice Saturday afternoon and maybe staying Saturday night in a hotel in Venice. Then, spending Sunday in Venice and taking the afternoon train back to wherever I parked my vehicle. So I guess I need advice on where to park my car overnight and which hotel to stay in Venice that is not too expensive and will there be any issue with trains running on Sunday? Any other advice will be very helpful.
Thank you!
The closest station to Aviano is Pordenone. When we went to Venice form there we just parked the car at the station.
You could get a hotel in Mestre and park your car there.
I actually have done this as a day trip. Took the train from Pordenone, and parked the car at the train station. I believe you can take the train from Aviano..the connections just aren't as good. I would think your car would be ok overnight at the pordenone train station. (MY son was stationed at Aviano, and hospitalized at Pordenone) You could drive to Venice and park there, but I would think it would be much easier and less stressful to do it by train.
I have hotel reservations now in Venice for one night. Do you all think that driving from Aviano to Pordenone - and then taking the train - is easier than Parking in the Tronchetto and taking the Vaporetto to Venice?
Thank you for replying!
Either one is easy. Driving to Venice and parking there is probably a little faster. Whichever you choose, the Vaporetti are your only choice for public transportation once you get to Venice. Don't worry about them. they're easy and fun.
