How to get Alhambra tickets?

Hello,

My wife and I plan to visit the Alhambra in October so I went to the www.Alhambratickets.com web site and tried to order tickets. The web site has following message in Spanish, and the English translation the web site provided, shown below:

"Siguiendo instrucciones del Patronato de La Alhambra y Generalife, ante la proxima finalizacion del convenio, QUEDA SUSPENDIDA LA VENTA ANTICIPADA DE ENTRADAS PARA VISITAS POSTERIORES AL DIA 31 DE JULIO DE 2007."

"Following instructions issued by THE ALAMBRA AND GENERALIFE'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES, and due to the forthcoming termination of the convention, THE EARLY SALE OF TICKETS FOR VISITS LATER THAN 31 JULY 2007 IS ADJOURNED."

The final result was a message that no tickets are available for the dates in October I selected.

Can anyone explain what the status is and how one could purchase the advance tickets? Is there someone to contact with this question? I called the Spanish Tourist office in LA and left a message but have not gotten a call back.

Hi Paul,

On this website look for the guidebook updates for Spain. There is an explanation of the situation and suggestions for how to deal with it. Here is how you get there: from the main Graffiti Wall screen, go to "share your feedback" under "Rick Steves Guidebooks." There you will find a link for "updates from Rick." Under that click on Spain and you will find it. Good luck. I am going there in October too so am in the same situation :)

Hi Liz,

We're going to try our Hotel, the Hostal Landazuri, to see if they can get the tickets. Have you tried it? What luck did you have?

Hi Paul,

My hotel offered to get me tickets when I was booking the room (the Capitel Nazari). I probably will but told them I'm not sure of the date yet (we'll be in Granada for several days). Good luck with yours!

Here is how the system works - you buy the ticket and you get in rightway to see the palace and the garden. when you purchase your ticket, you also make a reservation for the arab quarter at a particular time - if you miss it you can't get in.

if you go in Oct, you should be able to show up in the morning and get ticket no problem. they'll likely have reservations in the afternoon. this would work out for you so no need to bother with the advance ticket.
