We expect to spend the week of April 22-29 in the Netherlands (mainly)& Belgium. Will drive & plan to seek budget b&b lodging for the first 3 nights somewhere maybe 15-45 minutes north of Amsterdam such as in/near Alkmaar, Edam/Volendam or Hoorn. How tight is lodging in Holland during that period given that it is tulip season? Is that a "high season" for tourists in Holland? Would our alternate week of April 8-15 be much better, i.e, less crowded? Will 'tulip season' mean more tourists in other parts of the Netherlands & Belgium? Any thoughts & B&B suggestions would be appreciated.
