We are planning a trip to eastern France and Paris. Staying in Beaune for a few nights, after that to Ile de France for sights that we have missed on three previous trips (Chartres, Giverny). I would really like to squeeze in Verdun (3.5 hours from Beaune), quick stops in Reims (70 minutes drive), then on to Chartres for the night in the evening. (Don't worry, most of out trip is much slower paced). So, in his book Rick says half a day for Verdun battlefield. To those who have been there, is that about right? If anything I tend to want to linger at sights so I wonder whether we might be better off saving that for another trip. It's so hard to make the trade-offs necessary, any advice appreciated.
