How many nights in Murren?

We're travelling to Switzerland this summer and doing a 2 week home exchange in Zurich. Our only overnight side trip is going to be to Murren. We were planning on 2 nights but is that enough time? We're travelling with a 2 year old and a six year old. Thanks!

Muerren is a great choice. 2 nights depends on what you want to do. In 2 days, you can easily walk around Muerren, Gimmelwald, Wengen. Great Swiss alpine villages. You also have time to gondola up to the top of the Shilthorn from Muerren. If you want to hike and/or visit the top of the Jungfrau, we're talking a bit more time. The cog train from Lauterbrunnen to the Jungfraujoch takes 2hrs. to go up and 2hrs to come down. Plus the time to visit and tour up top, you could be looking at 6 hours. We didn't hike but we did do everything mentioned above in about 2.5 days and we stayed 3 nights. The journey from Zurich to Muerren will take 3-4hrs and will require 3-4 train changes with the last one being a combination gondola/cog train up to the village.

I would say a minimum of 3 nights in Muerren. It is a magical place. We did not like the Jungfraujoch. Took a full day to get there and back and was very, very expensive. Loved the Schilthorn.

2 nights is enough if that's all the time you have. If you could add another night that would be great.

Murren is heaven on earth and there are so many things to do. I went there with my husband and 8 year old son. We stayed at the Hotel Bellevue and had the best three days of our lives. We absolutely loved the train ride to the Eiger (it is long but well worth while - just seeing the glaciers was a fantastic experieince). We also went up to the Schilthorn and loved the trip. The great thing about the local hikes is that you can take gondolas uphill and hike downhill with your little ones. There is an adventure hike, right out of Murren for children. My son loved it so much he begged to go twice. There are lots of cows and pigs, and little wooden houses. All the locals know about it. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could stay longer. I travel all over the world, and Murren is the one town I would go back to more than once!! Have a heavenly journey.

My husband and I spent two nights in Murren on our recent trip to Switzerland. I felt it was enough time to see all of the sights. We stayed at Hotel Bellevue which was great until we checked out and they would not honor Rick's discount. I was so upset! Make sure you ask before you check in if they will honor the discount!!

How are you getting to Murren? It is so lovely, but will you train or drive to Lauterbrunen? It has been years since we were in Switzerland.. we went there on our honey moon. When we went we drove and then took the funicular up.There is a lot of walking and hiking, but the drive to get there is half the fun. The drive from Zurich through the Bernese Oberland is lovely in the summer.

If your schedule allows, spend three nights. It is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth. It will also give you some "elbow room" if there is bad weather. Wish I were going with you.

Lara, We're going to Lauterbrunnen with our 6 yr old in a couple weeks. If it is not too late, you can PM me and I'll let you know our experience. I scheduled three night for the 'elbow room' discussed earlier.

We just returned from a 2 wk. vacation to Europe which included 3 nights in Murren. Really, after you go to the top of the Schiltorn and hike in the Lauterbrunnen valley(which you are going to find hard to do with the age of your children) there really isn't much else to do there except enjoy the scenery. In my humble opinion, 2 nights is plenty.
