How many days in Southern France

We will be traveling by train from Barcelona and flying out of Lyon in mid March. We have 6 nights and planned to spend one night in Nimes, one in Arles, 2 in Avignon and 2 in Lyon. Other posts make me think we should only do one night in Lyon and spend more time in Provence. Any thoughts?

We have 5 scheduled in the Luberon with 2 more in Vaison La Romaine. We want the immersion experience not the 'check in the box' experience.

Don't know anything about Lyon; have never been there. However, I do know how close Avignon, Nimes, and Arles are to one another. Avignon is a good hub as most main roads pass through. I would pick one place and drive from there. Last time, we stayed in Castillon du Gard which is just off the highway between Nimes and Avignon. Gread b and b listed on tripadvisor.

I agree with David, we spent 5 nights in Avignon and used it as a base for the other cities you mentioned. They are close and can easily be done in day trips with a car.

Try to plan your days around the markets. We did three nights in Arles (form which we did a day trip to Nimes and Pont du Gard), and three in Avignon (visited the great market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sourgue). If I had to pick one as a hub, I would pick Avignon. We liked it a little more than Arles and like it is mentioned above, has slightly better transportation connections to places like Nimes, sur-la-Sourgue, Pont du Gard, etc.
