It depends on what your interests are. Museums, Jewish History, Medieval Churches, Imperial Coronations, Food Markets, or Fests. Here are the Fests and Events in Frankfurt and surrounding towns. * 17-20 May, Garden Festival, Bad Nauheim, Goldstein Park * 18-20 May, Jugendstil Festival, Darmstadt, Mathilda Heights * 18-20 May, Wine Festival, Bad Homburg * 18-20 May, Jousting Fest & Medieval Market, Koenigstein im Taunus * 19-20 May, Craftsmans Market, Seligenstadt Monastery Gardens * 25-28 May, International Equestrian Show, Wiesbaden * 26 May, Pealing of the Bells, Frankfurt, 16:30, Alt Stadt * 26 May, SATOURDAY, Frankfurt Free Museum Day * 26-28 May, Medieval Market, Muenzenburg Castle Ruins * 26-28 May, Jousting Tournament, Ronneburg Castle * 26-29 May, Waeldchestag Festival, Frankfurt City Forest * 27 May, Open Air Classical Concert, Bad Vilbel The Hotel is ok but there are better ones, including some nice B&B type places. What is your budget? I would also include a day trip to Büdingen and one to Idstein. They are my faves.

Here is my list of top things to see and do in Frankfurt: Option A. - Römerberg, Alte Nikolai, Haus Wertheim, Jörge Ratgeb Wall Paintings in the Karmeliter Cloister, Pauls Kirche, the old Palace and Roman Bath Ruins, the Kaiserdom, the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Wall, the Leinwand Haus, the Klein Markt Halle, Eschenheimer Turm, Alte Oper, and then go up on the Main Tower for sunset, have dinner at the Friedberger Warte or the Sachsenhausen Warte. Option B. - Add in the Deutsche Ordens Church built in 1309, visit the Palmengarten, take tram #12 to Bornheim on Wed. or Sat. for the Farmers Market and a walk down the Berger strasse with a stop in the Chinese Garden at Bethmann Park, on Fri. visit the market on Schiller Strasse, or at the Konstablerwache on Thurs.and Sat. When evening comes, take a walk through Alt Sachsenhausen with dinner in one of the old applewine pubs, like Dauth-Schneiders or Atschel. Option C - if you haven't been able to get to any old towns while here in Germany, then make plans to visit the Frankfurt neighborhood of Hoechst. There, you can walk through a dry moat next to the old city wall, see lots of original half-timbered houses lining narrow cobble-stoned streets, the Bolongaro palace and a schloss, as well as St.Justinus, one of the oldest churches in Germany built in 850. Have dinner up on the wall at the Alte Zoll Wache. A visit to the Hoechst Porcelain Factory would also be interesting. Tram #11 goes there and lets you see lots of Frankfurt

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions. As to the budget for hotels...around $90-$125 us per night. Doesn't have to be fancy, comfortable, clean and large enough for 3 people. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Lynda

I stayed at the Ibis Centrum last summer and would stay there again. The rate for a double room was €49/night (no breakfast) if you booked through their website (Accorhotels), prepaid, non-refundable. They don't have triple rooms, but 2 rooms is just within your budget. So much to see, adding another full day is not too much in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt can be the base for loads of nearby day trips, or you might find a guide to walk you around the town. All that Jo has listed is right on, she really knows Frankfurt like the back of her hand. We spend several days in and around Frankfurt last year as part of our exploring the Fachwerksrasse - the links of many beautiful half timbered cute-as-a-pin villages and towns (some mentioned by Jo, above) but we never scratched the surface. we will be back there again this year, i expect.

You might add a stop in Mainz along the way; it's lovely, has a great cathedral and old town, and is only 20-25 minutes away by commuter train. We stayed at the Manhatten and were completely pleased - modern, clean, good breakfast, and the location was great for trains (across the street!). If you want to wander about downtown at night and your luggage is small, try a hotel closer to the center.
