How long should we spend in Kinderdijk?

We will be driving from Ghent to Kinderdijk to see the windmills. We really do not want bike or do much since my mom has a bad back. We have a full day. Should we spend the while day in Kinderdijk or could we go somewhere else. I like the looks of Amsterdam! Thanks!! We will be there in June. Is there anything besides windmills to look at in Kinderdijk? Scenery, flowers etc.?

Kinderdijk is pretty much just windmills and polders. The nearby town of Alblasserdam is attractive but nothing too special. Walking at a slow pace and checking out the windmill that is open to the public, I think we stretched out about two hours of time there.

Agree with Tom. Windmills, windmills and windmills. And polder, caused by said windmills. I took my brother there and his 7 year old daughter. She loved it and we watched her interacting with a goat which was tied near a footpath. If we had not stopped with the goat, and other things my niece did, we would have been there a maximum of 2 hours.

Not much else. As I wrote above, the nearby town is pleasent enough, but nothing special. Windmills, dikes, polders, inaccessible wetlands and that's it.
