Planning on taking a trip to Western Europe sometime in the near future. Is there any way around only being allowed to stay for 3? I was hoping to stay for 5-6 months starting in Ireland and moving East.
May I ask if you have already read the zillion posts on here that cover just that theme? If you haven't, please do. I believe all your questions will be answered.
The basic rule is a maximum of 3 months in the six months following date of first entry into the EU [edit: Frank is correct (post below), I should have said "entry into the Schengen zone" instead of "entry into the EU"; the Schengen zone includes ~25 European countries but does not include the UK, Ireland, and a few other small countries--this is your chance to spend 3 months in Monaco). Here's the text of the regulation text of Schengen regulation, see Article 20(1)
Kent's right...except....the UK and Ireland are part of the EU but not Schengen. So, the time you spend in those two countries does not count toward the 3 months in Schengen.
And Liechtenstein is not yet a part of Schengen.
Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I'll spend some more time reading older posts.
Jesse, there is no need for you to apologize. Instead, it should be the snooty-nasty people on here who owe you the apology!
There is no need for Jesse to apologize, she did not know that these posts covering her theme were on here. That is why I posted that she could find the information here. It is also why I used words like "may", and "please" and "believe" which are not often used in nasty, snooty sentences. Why would I want to be nasty with someone new? If it came across that way than of course I am sorry, but it certainly was not my intention.
Jo,
How do you know Jesse is a "she?" I believe that the female form is Jessie, but I could be wrong.
Hi! I am a male haha. And thanks for the replies, I found lots of useful information on older posts :D.
Here's the main recent topic thread on this subject 3 months in 6 months following entry
