Traveling in August to Madrid. How far in advance is it recommended to buy international airfare? We're not flying for 8 months, should we wait a little longer? Prices seem high right now.

You're flying in August, prices are going to be high. Have you looked at Spanair? They have NY direct flights to Madrid. Consider finding a cheap flight from NY to a hub, then an in-Europe airline to get you to Madrid. Set up a price tracking feature on Kayak or another program so you can jump on any fare reductions.
