How far in advance should I book apt. Paris/ Can I without flight?

I'm overwhelmed with research and am wondering if I should reserve my apt. for a week in Paris for the end of August 2013 now so I can be sure to get what I need. It is a bit scary to commit so far in advance, but I want the least expensive apt. available with A/C and two separate beds. My hesitation is that I read that flights are expensive right now for next Aug., and I wonder if it is OK to book the apt. without a flight booked? What do you think?
And please throw in recommendations for apartments and airlines if you have not responded to my other posts, which I greatly appreciate. Thanks again, all! Kris

I totally agree with BG. If you've found a good priced apt with AC with the beds, space, neighborhood you like, I would definitely book it now. We've rented two apts in Paris and it's not easy finding exactly what you want at the price you want. Worst case scenario you cancel the apt and get your deposit back.

I would commit to the apartment you want first, and assume that you will be able to get a flight.

Apartments with A/C and two "real" beds at a low price are tough to find. There are more choices if you are ok with a bed and a sofa bed. Regardless, I'd suggest you start looking now. I've used vacationinparis.com twice. Highly recommend them because they are so easy to work with. You pay via paypal, no large damage deposit (just a $150 key deposit), and they usually send you the keys in advance. I've rented #201 (very small, but great location) and #115 (on 4th floor and no lift). Neither had A/C. Both were as advertised. As a caveat, flights are always expensive in August. While the price could go down some, I would not anticipate a huge drop in price.

Worst case scenario is that you cancel the apartment and do NOT get your deposit back. Every landlord is different in what they require. Some want the entire rental fee up front and have very strict cancellation policies. Be sure you know the policy before you book.

Wouldn't loosing the deposit equate to paying a higher air fare as far as the combination of the two goes?

Janet, I assumed Kris has done her homework and knows what to do to ensure getting the deposit back. I would only deal with a reputable company, and with a reputable company it's no different than booking a hotel room then cancelling it.

Apartment in Paris with AC is not the easiest find, so I would book early, but perhaps not quite yet, you have about a month or so , by end of January I would have booked

Yes, I would book now if you have found the apartment of your choice. Just read the fine print on cancellation. If you have to cancel, can you afford to lose the deposit? When I was researching for apartments, I found one that had 1 1/2 baths which is rare for Paris in my price category. It was 13 months in advance but what the heck, I inquired. It was taken for the time I wanted.

Ralph , forum etiquette generally holds that correcting or reprimanding other posters for spelling mistakes, typos, or grammarical errors is boorish.Just letting you know , since apparently you did not realize that ...

We recently booked an apartment in the Latin Quarter for a week in April. We do not have flights yet because we're hoping to find a better deal on flights this winter for April. The owner of the apartment asked us to let him know our flights when we booked them. As long as you pay the deposit required, you should be able to secure your apartment without specific flight times.

I would commit to a booking now as August is a very busy time in Europe its when most people on this side of the world take their holidays! I would have a look at Nextaway.com as they have apartments in Paris that would fit your requirements.

Thanks everyone,
I reserved a great apartment with A/C with VIP. They were great and less expensive than the other companies! Kris
