Will spend three weeks in London, Paris, and Italy (Venice, Florence/Pisa, Cinque Terre, Rome) from second week to end of May. Does anyone know how the weather will be like in these three areas? I know they are quite different, which pose a lot of challenge to my packing (need to decide among long sleeves vs short sleeves, jackets versus shirts, pants versus shorts/skirts, etc.). Can anyone advise? I know I can use weather.com or google search, but they tend to give generally information, and still don't give me a good idea on what wardrobes I should pack!
Hi Emily, I look at accuweather.com which gives a 25 day outlook. Any long range forecast is not terribly accurate, but at least you get an idea of the trends. Sounds like a great trip, have fun!

We did Italy & England (London & Portsmouth) in May two years ago. London was chilly & Italy was warm. How formal or informal are your plans?
Thank you! What do you mean by 'formal' versus 'informal'? It will be a family trip, so I guess it will be informal?
We've traveled to Paris the last three years at the end of May. We have always found it to be very cool. Occassionally we would get sunshine and would not need a jacket but most days we wore pants, long sleeves and jackets. Evenings were VERY cool - 50's plus cool breeze. I enjoy that weather but it makes packing a challenge. Luckily there are places to buy additional clothing items in a pinch.
I was in London and Paris the last two weeks of May several years ago and both were pleasantly warm, hardly even needed a sweater. However, every year is different so hard to plan. I would take mostly short sleeves along with a long-sleeve shirt, a light sweater, and a rain jacket/shell. That way you can layer if necessary. Worked for me. Also, I think she meant formal (evening dinners in fancy reastaurants, opera, etc) vs mostly informal day touring.
We were in Paris in mid-late June several years ago and nearly froze to death. I saw the trend of 70 degree days, but forget to take in account how often rain clouds obscure the sun. We had scheduled a bike ride to Versailles thru an America Co and I don't think the temp was above 55 degrees. It stayed low 60s for most of our week there. I had packed 1 pr of capris and a hoodie sweatshirt ( and the rest summer clothes)and was miserable. If you look at my pictures, I have the sweatshirt on in 95% of the pictures! Several friends went the exact same time a year later and the Parisians were apologising for the 80 degree heat, which my friends adored. Layer and you won't be disappointed.
