staying in Switzerland for two nights. would like a hotel near the lake. Any suggestions.
Also looking for restaurant recomendations.

We have stayed at Hotel des Alpes. Room with balcony overlooking the lake is fabulous. Also had a room towards the back looking at the street, which was nice too.

Agree with Kathy about Hotel des Alpes. Wonderful location, very nice breakfast. About as inexpensive as you will find in Lucerne. There are other towns on the lake which can be reached by either car or steamer, but they are very small with little to see. Rooms at the Hotel des Alpes were a bit "tired" a couple of years ago and probably haven't changed much since then.

Just got back from four wonderful days in Lucerne. We stayed at the Renaissance (by Marriott), great location. Not on the lake but you can get there in a hurry, it is very close. Close to the train station too.
