Does anyone know of a reasonable "Rick Steves" type hotel or b and b in Nice or Antibes?? Would like to use as a base to explore the Cote D' Azur! Would love to have a a sea view but am finding them too pricey. Just there for three nights on our way to Italy, but want something near the beach. We are going in late August.
There are quite a few Rick Steves type hotels and smaller places in the Rick Steves' Provence guidebook, and a slightly smaller list in the France guidebook. That's where I'd start.
60Euro per night for 3 persons, across the street from the ocean _http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-0749-ibis-nice-promenade-des-anglais/index.shtml
We like Villefranche sur Mer as a base. Loved Hotel de la Darse with a balcony and lovely water view. Easy parking. Way nicer than Nice IMO. www.hotel-dela-darse-villefranche-sur-mer:cote.azur.fr. From there we jumped on the train to Italy.
Thank you. Will check it out.
norma, You might also have a look at This Hotel. It's within easy walking distance to the "old town" and lots of restaurants and the street markets. Depending on the room you choose, you could have a fantastic view down the Promenade des Anglais. Happy travels!
Check out the website for Riviera Pebbles. We stayed in a 3B/2bath apt in Nice in Feb 2010. They are British and did a great job for us. I recommend them. Loved having our own home there for 10 days. We rode the ONE EURO bus everywhere: Monaco, Menton, Eze, Antibes, Villefranche, St. Paul de Vence, etc.
