Any one know some good hotels not too expensive in Venice..also anyhwere I can leave my hire car in Venice (or nearby) for a few days
There are hundreds of hotels in all price ranges in Venice. It would help to know when you will be there and what you consider to be "inexpensive".
You can park your car in Venice for about 20 Euro a day or near the train station in Mestre (across the lagoon) for about 5 Euro.
Liane,
You might have a look at Albergo Doni. I believe it's still listed in Rick's book? It's an older building (used to be a Palace or other important building as I recall), but the rooms were quite comfortable and it's in a good location.
Happy travels!
Haven't been yet, but I plan on staying at Hotel Riva in a few weeks. http://www.hotelriva.it/ENG/location.html
I stayed at the little Hotel Ala a while back and it was gorgeous. The Antonia Suite on the roof was just fabulous (not as expensive as it sounds!) It now seems to have been engulfed by Best Western -- http://hotelala.hotelinvenice.com/ -- might still be worth checking out though.

www.cadeidogi.it Great hotel, great location, great owners, good restaurant with discount. Just loved it.
Locanda al Leon! About e125 per night, a great location close to San Marco, and a small, charming, friendly place...cozy, welcoming, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We love it.
Leave your car in a parking garage in Mestre and take the train into Venice. It is cheaper to park there and you will save quite a bit. There is a multi-story car park across the street from the train station. It cost about 1/2 of what the car parks in Venice cost. From there it is a quick train trip into Venice.
