We are thinking of spending six days (late May early June) in Belgium. How would you spend them? I'd appreciate any suggestions for hotels and B&Bs, restaurants and must-see sights. Thanks.
If you want to splurge on an unforgettable meal in Brugge, try De Karmeliet:
If you decide to eat here, you'll need to make a reservation and wear the proper clothes.
I have stayed at Hotel Adornes:
A nice feature of this establishment is the unlimited use of the hotel's bicycles.
I particularly enjoyed the Groenige Museum. I wouldn't call it a "must-see"... only because I don't like that term (implies too much herd mentality for me).
For a list of things to do and see, google "Brussels sights or attractions." And the same for Bruges.
The De Halve Maan Brewery has a nice tour that includes a climb up to their roof with an amazing view of Bruges.
These 2 cities are quite close to each other, so you may want to just base out of one city for the whole 6 days and do some daytrips to the other city and the countryside so you don't have to move around a lot.
I would hop a train from Brugge and travel up to Ostende for a few hours. The sea is lovely up there, and it only takes 15 min. and costs something like 3.50 €. Great promenade along the beach, sand dunes, WW2 embankments and a nice little downtown area.
Hi Paula
we stayed at the wonder Royal Stewart b&b. It is central to everything and wonderful Maggie it the best. my 9 year old son and I stayed there for 5 days last october and it was so special. Maggie treated my son like her Grandson, she even walked us to the internet cafe so we didn't get lost.
can't recommend her enough
cheers
Because we had many points with the Intercontinental Hotel System, we stayed in the Crown Plaza which was a perfect location, an excellent hotel, very Belgian though a US Brand. There is an archaeological dig in the basement, which is fascinating, so even if you stay elsewhere, you should stop by and visit it. George Werner, Pittsburgh
Paula,
I went through our journal and would also recommend the Memlinger-St. John's Hospital Museum in Brugges.
It has interesting art intermingled with much of the original hospital memorabilia. George Werner, Pittsburgh
A fantastically differently B&B in Bruges:
