Hotels Recommendations in Germany

Hello! At the end of July, I will be traveling around some areas of Germany with my grandparents. We are currently trying to plan our trip, and I'm having a hard time with choosing which hotels to stay in. I'm looking for something that has a moderate price, good location, and character. The cities we will be visiting include Bonn, Stuttgart, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and Munich. Any kind of thought or comment will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Andrew, In Munich you could have a look at either Hotel Uhland or Hotel Royal. Both are very comfortable, serve a good breakfast and have wonderful staff. Of the two, Uhland is a bit farther from the main station (about a 15 minute walk), while Royal is very close to the station (almost right across the street). I'd recommend getting a hotel booked SOON, as that's peak travel season. Happy travels!

Try hrs.com. They describe hotel services well, show distances from the town center, have fair reviews by known customers, and send you a clear email about the terms of your reservations. If you need to make a change, they handle that well. We have made reservations for 7 trips through them.

Be aware that a lot of hotels along your route will not have air conditioning. If it is a mild summer, heat may not be a problem, but Germany is not immune from late summer heat waves. Not many places are, these days. At that time of year, you and your grandparents might want to include air conditioned rooms, not just lobby, on your check list.

Andrew - I can only recommend a hotel in Rothenburg. It's the Hotel-Garni Hornburg. It's located just outside the main entrance to the old town wall. Excellent hosts (Martin is a hoot), accomodations and great breakfast. http://www.hotel-hornburg.de/ Enjoy

I suggest getting Rick Steve's Germany travel book. Or see what travel books are available in your local library. Those towns should all be addressed. Another source of accommodations virtually everywhere is Booking.com. I've had good luck with them, and all your questions should be addressed.
Trip Advisor is another great place to start looking for rooms.

We've stayed at 3 different hotels in Rothenburg: Hotel Klosterstuble was quaint and lovely. The Eisenhut Hotel is wonderful with old world charm.
Hotel Reichs Kuchenmeister was nice but the part we stayed in was the modern addition. Very clean but not a lot of charm. All were located a short walking distance to the town square.

Another vote for Hotel Uhland in Munich. We've stayed there twice and have nothing but good memories.

Andrew, I don't know about the other areas but in Rothenburg odT I would highly recommend the Hotel Klosterstuble. Great location perhaps 5 minutes walk to the Rathaus, wonderful people and an excellent restaurant. Not to be missed, Bill.

Hi, Another vote for Uhland. We've stayed there 7/8 times over the years and never had a bad experience, breakfast is over the top!! Bus stop is a short half block away and there's a Metro stop (Theresienwiese) 2 blocks blocks away by the St.Paul's Church.

Rothenberg- for atmosphere, I love the Burg Hotel, built into the City walls- about half the rooms look out at the valley, "through the walls'. Wonderful sunny breakfast room. A stones throw from the center of town, but hardly anyone except residents gets there. A reated hotel is Markus turm (built into one of the towers) but we havent stayed there
