Hotels/Pensions in Munich

I've been researching hotels as close to the Marienplatz as possible. In the past we've stayed at the Platzl which is very close to the Ubahn but for this trip it's not an option. So I have narrowed the hotels to the following:

Hotel am Markt
Hotel Blauer Bock
Hotel Schlicker

I know there are others like Hotel am Viktuelenmarkt but they look further away from the Marienplatz. We will be taking the Ubahn from the airport to Marienplatz and walking with our suitcases to the hotel. The Platzl was an easy walk. Not sure of the others.

Does anyone have opinions of the hotels listed or other suggestions?

The U-Bahn doesn't go to the airport.

Get the addresses from their websites and look them up on Google maps. Blauer Bock is about as close as Platz. Am Viktualienmarkt is about a block farther. Not sure about the others.

Mmm... well whichever bahn goes from airport to Hauptbahnhof to Marienplatz. I know we have to change trains to get to MP.

Hi,

From the Hauptbahnhof to Marienplatz is a nice 20 min or so walk. Staying near the Hauptbahnhof (plenty of Pensionen, small hotels as well as expensive ones) enables you to take S-Bahn #8 to the airport, if you don't want to take the Lufthansa bus from the Hbf.

No need to change trains.

Both the S1 and the S8 go directly from the airport to Marienplatz (or to the Hauptbahnhof). They come into town from the opposite directions. Both S-Bahn take about the same time, so, at the airport, take whichever one leaves next.

Several years ago, I stayed at Pension Siebel. "No frills" would be a pretty accurate description, but it was inexpensive and only a block off of the Viktualienmarkt.

Alexandra,

I'm not familiar with the hotels you mentioned, but I can certainly recommend HOTEL ROYAL in Munich. It's a very easy walk from the Munich Hbf, so good access to transportation. I found the room to be very comfortable, the staff were great and they serve an incredible breakfast. It's also an easy walk from there to Marienplatz (as I recall, it took me about 12 minutes or so).

Another wonderful hotel in Munich is Hotel Uhland, however it's somewhat farther from the Hbf and Marienplatz (about a 15 minute or so walk from the station).

Happy travels!

Thank you for the comments so far. I'd rather stay within a few blocks of the Marienplatz (where the Ratskeller is located) as opposed to near the train station. The walk is much further, especially hauling suitcases to our hotel and back.

I stayed at the Hotel Blauer Bock in 2011. It is within a very short and convenient walk to Marienplatz. The room was small but normal for European standards. The room and bathroom was spotless and newly renovated. They had a hearty breakfast with lots of choices, including eggs, sausages, fruit, breads, pastries. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

Alexandra,

"The walk is much further, especially hauling suitcases to our hotel and back."

That's certainly your choice, but I don't understand the concept. Staying at the hotel I suggested earlier provides a very easy walk from station to hotel with luggage, and an easy walk to Marienplatz for touring without luggage.

Cheers!

I was very pleased with the Blauer Bock when we stayed in Dec, 2012. Location is perfect.

We stayed at the Blauer Bock and it is handy to the Marienplatz station but the station is enormous and you need to have some idea where to exit it. I find it easiest to use Die Bahn to ask for the trip directions, and it will not only tell you how far you have to go but also provide you with a map.

Start: MUC München Airport
Destination: Sebastiansplatz 9, 80331 München

Click on the trip and then the walk icon.

You can of course do this for any of the hotels.

Sorry the link to the map did not work. You can go through the process using the first link.
