Hotels near Rue Cler, Paris: du Champs de Mars or de Londres Eiffel?

I'm going to be staying in Paris for a couple of nights in October (after my RS London tour). I want to stay near the Rue Cler and the Eiffel Tower, and have narrowed it down to two options. Either the Hotel du Camps de Mars or the Hotel de Londres Eiffel. Both are recommended in RS' 2011 Paris guidebook, but Londres Eiffel is about $50 more than Champs de Mars. Since it will just be me in a single room, is it worth spending the extra money, or is Champs de Mars just as good? Any help and experiences would be most appreciated.

stay at the hotel valadon in rue cluer. The hotel is a boutique hotel and is awesume. The owners, victor and his wife do everything to make you feel at home. We can't wait to go to paris and stay there again. Close to everything. Very safe local.

Londres is worth the extra $50. The rooms at HDCDM are super tiny and while I've had no issues, others have had lots of problems with reservations or customer service there. My personal favorite, and what I feel is the best value (in the same area) is Hotel Muguet.

Connie - regarding the Valadon, Victor and his wife no longer own the property. It is now run by Hotel du Cadran across the street. It has been completely updated. Breakfast is available at the du Cadran. Apparently Victor and his wife have moved to the USA.

Ashley - another vote for the Londres Eiffel. It's in a good location, steps away from the Eiffel Tower, restaurants, bakeries, grocery store, pharmacy, and tabac. The rooms are nice, good size for Paris. Mine had this crazy wallpaper with green squirrels on all 4 walls but it was clean and the bathroom was modern. There was also a little refrigerator which was very handy. The staff was helpful and spoke English. I plan to stay there again on my next trip.

Another vote for de Londres Eiffel. Would certainly stay there again. The only drawback, for me, was that it is a good hike to the metro. If you don't have walking issues I would say it's worth the extra $.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Londres Eiffel
while on a Rick Steves' Paris City Tour several years ago. It is on a very quiet street, very clean and the staff were helpful & delightful. The Rue Cler (among my world favorite places) is a super easy walk, and I think I recall correctly, just one block away. Also a pleasant, short walk to the Eiffel. You will feel safe there. Plenty of cafes within a minute or two. And, should you need it, there is(was) a small coin laundry right across the street.
