Hotels near Gare du Nord?

Any recommendation for a hotel near the Gare du Nord? I'm going to Paris in early December for a week, then on to Amsterdam, so I'd like to stay near the Gare du Nord, where the trains leave for Amsterdam.

I'm looking for a nice "affordable" (100 Euros or less) hotel close to the train station so I don't have to take a taxi with my luggage.

Check out Hotel Caravelle on rue des Martyrs, about a 10 minute walk from Gare du Nord.

Try Hotel Champagne on Rue du Fauborg Saint-Denis, less than 3 minutes from the entrance to the Gare du Nord. You would go to the left after exiting thru the fronyt of the station. Good, if limited, breakfast and reasonable rates

Hmmm. I think that rue Faubourg St. Denis might be OK for one night but it is not the most salubrious of streets for a whole week. It would be cheap for just that reason.

"It would be cheap for just that reason."

Norma makes a key point, oft blown right by on these hallowed pages: In European travel, you don't always get what you pay for, but you almost never get what you don't pay for.

The Caravelle looks nice, but seems like it's quite a walk from the Gare du Nord.

I don't think I would stay at the Champagne. Some not so good reviews on Trip Advisor. Besides, I think that street in front of the Gare would probably be pretty noisy.

Try the Hotel Kuntz. Dated but clean and quiet in my experience. Closer to the Est station than the Nord, but walkable.

The Ibis near Gare du Nord was quite nice when we stayed there. The price was certainly good too. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the station.

Why would you choose to stay in that area when you are there for a whole week!!? No way would I,, there are tons of nicer places to stay( nicer areas I mean) and you are going to be all over the place anyways.. so why there.. yech. I get that somenone only staying one night ( so in transit) might choose to stay near the station,, but you have a whole week!

And why not take the metro??It is fast and easy,, and cheap.. and I assume you will pack light ,, I managed to take the RER and metro to get to my hotel and I am a middleaged woman( who went solo),, so there is no reason you couldn't

Look at Hotel Des Mines, Hotel Eugenie, Hotel Diana, and HOtel du College Du France,, all are well reviewed( but basic,, budget places, all clean and well located though) .

Check out hotel reviews by just googling a hotel name and word "review",, tripadvisors reviews are good.

I'd second the statement that the area around Gare du Nord is not very pleasant. I might stay there overnight if I was going out of Nord in the morning, but not for a week.

OK, thank you, everyone. The last time I was in Paris, I stayed at a hotel close to the Gare de L'est (not too far from the Gare du Nord, as you know), and I don't recall it being a seedy neighborhood, but no doubt the area has changed and I should look to finding something in a more quiet, pleasant neighborhood.

My recollections are based on being in Paris about 30 years ago!

The Hotel du College De France looks very nice, on a quiet street. I'll see if they have a room.

Quick reply from the Hotel du College De France. Single room available at 90 Euros. Looks good. I've reserved. It's fairly close to an RER B station, so it will be easy to get there from the airport.

Tyler I think you made a good choice,, it is well reviewed( considered a clean well located budget hotel) and although I have not stayed there,, I know the area and like it very much.. Enjoy.
