Hotels near Champs Elysee? Why or Why not?

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone could recommend hotels near the Champs Elysee? I just received my new RS Paris 2014 book, I looked over it and cannot seem to find any hotels in that area... unless I completely missed it? Can anyone shine some light on why RS may not recommend this area? Thanks so much.

Maybe because other than the Arc there are not many tourist spots. I know he favors the Rue Cler area by the. Eiffle Tower. The Marais is also a "hot" neighborhood these days.

Gabriela, I'm speculating a bit, but it could be because there are no smaller, local hotels in that area of the type preferred by RS. I've never looked for hotels in that part of Paris, but suspect they mostly consist of large, ritzy properties that most people probably couldn't afford.

Maureen, yes, that makes sense. Thanks,I see that now.
Ken, the whole reason this topic came up is a family member mentioned they may want to stay in that area because there are so many ritzy hotels there and they figured it must be a good area. I was kinda stumped when I saw RS had no suggestions... then I thought maybe it's RS's back-door philosophy. I have only ever stayed in rue cler area. Thanks guys!

Gabriela, You may enjoy reading this recent article on the Champs Elysee area. The writer states that Parisians don't go there except to look at the lights as "They know it's crowded, stressful, overpriced - essentially a place for people not from the city to get a glimpse of an imaginary Paris that doesn't actually exist". Here's a link to the article..... www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24491494 Bon Voyage!

Thank you all for your suggestions! I will definitely take them into account. I have only been to Paris once... returning soon. I loved the area near the Eco Militaire metro station. My family was wanting to stay closer to the Champs, I think because they want to do some shopping. And they see the glitzy hotels there and figure it must be a good location. I suggested that as long as we stay near a metro station we should be good. Not really my choice!
Thanks everyone for your very prompt and friendly advice. :)

Gabriela, I stayed at the Hotel Neva on my first trip to Paris many years ago. It's on a quiet little street, just a 5 minute walk to the Arc de Triomphe. It still gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. Here's the website -- http://www.parishotelneva.com/en/. I think any area in Paris is fine as long as you're near a metro stop. Hope you have a great time!

I like the Latin Quarter, near the Lux. Gardens, where I can take the RER directly to/from CDG. Stayed last time on the Boul St. Mich, lots of hotels and restaurants, convenient to catch the metro anywhere.

I like the 4th, 5th and 6th, as close to the river as possible. You will find most places walkable from those areas.

I agree with Andrea and a few others.. the 4th( Marais)5th( Latin Quarter) and 6th( ST Germain) are far better choices.. I would not stay near the Champs myself.. the area is filled with overpriced chains and is the home of the 5 EURO coke( unless you go to mcdonalds..lol ). There are tons of lovely women on the Champs itself.. they want to chat with you "do you speak english" ( ok I am being sarcastic which isn't helpful since you may not realize these women are just trying to get close enough to you to pick pokcet you .. IGNORE them completely no matter where you see them, keep walking ) Now.. if you guys have a budget in euros many here can suggest nice hotels in other areas.. there are many great places to stay in Paris that are reasonable and in good areas.. I have tried about 15 by now.. and I have visited solo and alone with my kids , so I always choose safe areas. As for Ricks recommendations.. yes he recommends Rue Cler, but he knows darn well there are just as nice hotels and areas.. as I personally have been on one of his tours and we did not stay on or near Rue Cler, and my friend took tour the next year and their hotel was also not on or near Rue cler.

Gabriela, The area near the Ecole Militaire Metro station is Rue Cler that's promoted in the RS books and TV shows. That's where I also like to stay, and I don't care if it's considered "too touristy". There are some nice hotels and restaurants in that neighborhood, and it's close to the Eiffel Tower and some of the other main sights. I was back there in July, and enjoyed it just as much as on previous visits. I wouldn't be too concerned about being close to shopping. It's easy to get just about anywhere in Paris via Metro or RER, so I'd suggest staying in an area you like. Cheers!

For some interesting shopping, I prefer the St Germain area to Champs.. and for some who love the giant department stores they prefer the area of the Grand Boulevards and Opera to be nearer to Galleries Lafayette and Printemps

I took my 11 year old grand daughter last summer, and she wanted the Eifel Tower!!! We stayed in the Hotel Eber Mars, which is not "star" rated, and loved it. It's 2 blocks from Rue Cler, and 4 blocks from the Eifel Tower, and we walked over for the lighting every night. It was close enough to the Seine, and we did go to Champs Elysee -- which was like a ridiculous tourist trap -- with all kinds of U.S. shops, including a Disney Store. I'm glad we saw the Great Arch, and it is a beautiful site, but I do think there are other places to sleep.

Hello Gabriella,
I recently booked the hotel right where you looking to book. The name is "Hotel Cecilia", prime location with view of Arc, breakfast included, bus to CDG AIRPORT is 150 yards and not expensive by Paris standards. I think
this location is very good and walkable to most attractions. Rue Cler is nice and polished , but a little far from everything, nothing is going on at night. Love to eat there though. Marais is opposite, too much is going on there on my taste, just like Village in Manhattan. Love the falafel place there.
So check this place on Trip Adviser and Booking.com. I am very happy that I've found it.
