hotels in Zurich?

Any suggestions for reasonably priced hotels in Zurich? nothing fancy, but a decent location with easy transport to airport and with an interesting area to walk around in early evening or early morning before catching a plane for long flight home.

We have stayed at Hotel Adler, Hotel Bristol, and Pension St. Josef. All are moderately-priced (for Zürich) and all are in or close to the Altstadt area and within 10 minutes' walk from the train station. Of the three, the Adler is our favorite but probably also the most expensive. Pension St. Josef gets lots of recommendations here and on other travel boards, but our room there was very small (it was q quad room so manybe their doubles are OK). We enjoy walking along the river and down to the lake in the evening, then dining at a little place on a patio in the Altstadt. In the morning, my husband takes a brisk swim in the river before breakfast. Our schedule has never allowed us to see the Chagall window at the Fraumünster chirch, but maybe you could do that in the morning.

Consider staying close to the airport since prices are much cheaper than in town. And it is easy to get into town since the transport system is so good. When we were there about a year ago we got a day pass for just the main Zurich zone and the airport and that worked well for us.

Lola, these recommended places are near main train station: Zurich HB vs airport? - Doris

The hotels I suggested are in downtown Zurich within a 10-minute walk of the main train station, Zurich HB. The train takes 9 to 11 minutes to reach the airport, and the station there is inside the terminal. You just go up the escalator. There are hotels, such as the Kindli, closer to Zurich HB, on the same side of the river and near the Banhofstrasse fancy shoping areas, but they are mch more expensive. And one year we stayed at the Radisson lBlu which is in the airport (not near it< IN it). We got a deal on the room, for 150 CHF. I think they are about triple that price now. Unfortunately I fell in love with Switzerland when the franc was only 80 cents. Now it is around $1.10, making a 35% increase in the cost of travel in Switzerland. Yikes.

Lola, I hear you! Our first trip the CHF was 82 cents, and we love the area so much we haven't been able to take a trip without it on our itinerary! Going again in June:) Doris, I haven't stayed in Zurich, but will in June. I booked a room at the Hotel Continental which is a short walk from the Hbf. Somebody on this site mentioned it, and I really like the look of it. It gets very good reviews on Trip Advisor, and if you are willing to pay in advance the rate is not bad.
