My husband and I are planning 10 days in Vienna in January 2012 (our first trip). We would appreciate recommendations for a charming hotel in the $100 to $200 range that is fairly centrally located. Thanks!
For a ten day trip, I'd suggest an apartment. We rented one just over the Danube canal for eight days in June. It was cheaper than a hotel and we loved having a place that felt like home. Central Vienna is so compact that it wasn't a problem to go back and forth each day. We went back before dinner a couple of times, too.
We stayed at Hotel zur Wiener Staatsoper. http://www.zurwienerstaatsoper.at/ It is very centrally located - just a stone's throw from the Opera house and a block or two from the Cathedral. Very nice place with a great breakfast each morning. I think we paid about 135E a night maybe? That was in 2009.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Vienna and it was very nice and a great location. It was a good price and it included breakfast buffet.
Here are a couple that friends have stayed at when visiting, with good reviews given. http://www.pension-suzanne.at/english/index_2.htm http://www.kremslehnerhotels.at/init/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=166&Itemid=351
Many thanks for all the suggestions!
The Best Western Kaiserhof was fabulous, including champagne with the included breakfast. As I recall, it was reasonable for what it offered, I would think under $200, but you'd have to check their website for pricing when you will be there.
I can also second Pension Suzanne...about half a block from the opera house. Very clean, big rooms. Reasonable prices and great location.
Hotel Kummer on the Mariahilferstrasse was $115/night for a single, I don't think too much more for a double, and included breakfast. It is also on top of an U-Bahn stop. Enjoy!
