We will be in Schaffhausen for one night this September. Since Rick's Guidebook doesn't cover Schaffhausen I have been getting blurry eyed checking various websites. Anyone with first hand advice on where to stay would be most appreciated.
Thank you
Karen, Did you find a nice hotel in the area? I will be going to Schaffhausen this May and am currently looking for a hotel in the area.
Karen and Robert:
You must be the only two people in the US other than my wife and me that have or will visit Schaffhausen since September 2010. I'm not having much luck finding a hotel so far. I tried www.tripadvisor.com; plenty of hotels at high price points, also tried www.realtravel.com, but these hotels weren't in Schaffhausen. I'm hoping there are a few hotels in the 100 €/night range. What hotel did either of you select?
To everyone who has asked.. I cannot believe I have not seen this question . We stayed in a wonderful hotel in Schaffhausen years ago. It is still there. It is the Hotel Park Villa. We treated ourselves to the suite. It was magnificent and like living in a king's palace. I am sure it is not inexpensive, but the people that worked there were very nice. My husband got something in his eye in a wind storm and they helped him find a doctor in town who removed the piece . I would highly recommend this hotel and I would splurge for a big room.
Schaffhausen is a beautiful city, but I could never find a reasonable hotel there. You might try the Hotel zum Sittich. Two years ago we stayed at B&B Kaffeebaum (www.kaffeebaum.ch) where we had a nice big room and bath, and excellent location for train station and sightseeing. $150/night with breakfast. Up several flights of very narrow stairway. Great restaurant nearby: La Piazza located in gorgeous Thiergarten building on Munsterplatz. Daytrip (by train) to Stein-am-Rhein was spectacular. Schaffhausen deserves 2 nights and is very convenient by train to Zurich Airport.
