Why just that area,, its one street in a rather boring and less central area,, is it cause Rick says you should? Don't get me wrong, some people like the area,, and there is nothing wrong with it,,, other then as far as I am concerned its a bit boring of an area. One of my main issues is there are only so many hotels in that area, so when you limit yourself to that area, under the misinformation that its the only market /villagely feeling streets or areas around then you are depriving of so many other great choices.

You need look no further. Get the RS book and they are all listed there (or many are). There are also other places you can consider. We like the Marais and Bastille areas too.

FWIW, I regretted staying on Rue Cler when we were there 5 years ago. We chose to stay there because Rick makes it sound magical, and when I studied abroad, my professor's apartment was a stone's throw away. I remembered it seemed like a good location, so we went with it. I wish we had stayed somewhere else, somewhere more central. True, you can often find rooms where you can see the tip of the Eiffel Tower, but it doesn't have the tight neighborhood feel I was expecting (or remembered). When we return, I'll look into St. Germain des Pres, the Marais, or something else. It's all a personal preference. It's not a bad place to stay, and the hotel we stayed in was a good value and clean (I think it was Hotel Relais Bosquet, but it's been 5 years...), the neighborhood just didn't live up the hype for me and I'd prefer to stay somewhere else in the future.

Karen, In the Rue Cler area, you might have a look at This Hotel. It's a short distance from Rue Cler, so not exactly "on" the street, but it's a beautiful and very comfortable Hotel, and the staff are wonderful. Bon Voyage!
