Hotels in Paris

My sister and I plan to visit Paris in late October. We are seeking a safe, clean twin bed room in a moderately priced ($200.00/night or less) hotel in an area close to some of the major tourist attractions. We will be staying in Paris for 6 or 7 days. Suggestions? We have been looking at the Hotel Muguet as a possibility.

If you are staying that long, why don't look into renting an apartment? You can get one for that price and it will give you so much more room...as well as being able to have breakfast/coffee while getting ready in the morning. We rented an apartment last month through www.cobblestoneparis.com and had a wonderful experience. Others on here regulary recommend www.vacationinparis.com.

I love apartment rentals. I use vrbo.com and homeaway.com. I just checked availability for late October for an awesome apartment I rented in Paris, but it is already booked. I would start looking soon. As for convenient areas, I would prefer to stay in the 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements. The closer to the river the better. Some people here like the 7th. I stayed at a hotel just off Rue Cler my first trip to Paris, based on those recommendations. Although it is a very nice area, I found it was not close to anything besides the Eiffel Tower. Since then I have rented apartments in the Latin Quarter (5th arr.).

An apartment is a great idea!!! You will be able to save beaucoup bucks on food. If you decide on a hotel, I suggest l'Hotel Hameau, 48 rue de Passy, which is where my husband I always stay. http://www.hameaudepassy.com/ It is a 7 minute walk from the Eiffel Tower but feels like it is in REAL "village Paris." And it is clean. And quiet. And friendly. And in your price range. I have recommended it a zillion times on this site, so you can just search for my enthusiastic prior rants. :-) EVERYONE ELSE, just about, will go on and on about Rue Cler, because Rick recommends it. Pricy and touristy, is what I say about Rue Cler, but each to their own.

For me I like staying at a hotel instead of an apartment. I stayed at the Best Western Ducs De Bourgogne (it was an old hotel that Best Western happened to take over). I really liked that it was a 5-minute walk to the Louvre, right off a main road so easy to find and walk around, had a pedestrian mall behind it, and less than a block to a main tube station. I received the best deal booking through them directly.

I second (or third or 4th) getting an apartment given the amount of time you have. You'' have more space (Paris apartments may be small, but Paris hotel rooms are often miniature), and kitchen facilities. I hate staying in hotels and we always rent a house or apartment whenever we go to France unless it's a 1 or 2 night stay in a town.

Many regulars on the Helpline have recommended Hotel Muguet in the past so I'm sure it's very good.

I agree with others about the value of an apartment for a stay as long as yours. We've done well with homeaway.com, in Paris and elsewhere, but there are others too as others have noted. If you prefer a hotel, we liked the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, in the Latin Quarter, very much. Their website
http://www.hotel-grandes-ecoles.com/ shows rates of 120-150 euros for two people, within your budget. There are many many other good well-located hotels in Paris, I'd suggest checking out any candidates on tripadvisor.

We have had great luck with renting apartments all over, most with vrbo, most were in 100.00 range to 150.00 range for two bedroom. We personally liked it better than hotel, we found we saved money doing this, had breakfast there, packed lunch and then had dinner out. Good luck.

But if you decide to stay at Hotel Muguet you will like it. My wife loved it and wants to stay there again.

We stayed 2 blocks north of Notre Dame cathedral in an apartment and LOVED it! We can't find the apartment owner any longer, darn. We loved having a kitchen and a private patio at our disposal... it really made the stay much more enjoyable. We would buy 2-3 cheeses/ other day and know we could put them into the fridge. Also coffee is a big thing for us, and to wake up and put on a pot of coffee as we got our day going really was nice. Location: stay as close to the Seine, and as close to Notre Dame cathedral as possible. By doing so, you get to walk to everything in minutes verses hopping on a subway to get somewhere fun. On our first night we laid down at 11 p.m., exhausted, after returning from the Eiffel tower and being up all day. At 1 am, we both awoke... WIDE AWAKE... and threw on our clothes and went for a walk to the Latin Quarter. NY NY is NOT the city that never sleeps, it's Paris. We watched drunken men skinny dip in the town-hall's fountains, walked beneath Notre Dame's looming gargoyle north wall, ate Nutella crepes and found our way to the Latin Quarter where clubs were letting out a roudy group of guys in matching Fedoras. And, all of this because we stayed in the middle of it all.

We stayed at the Hotel Muguet on our first trip to Paris. It was clean, quiet, and close to the Metro. The owner was kind and helpful with directions and suggestions. We will always remember this hotel fondly!
