Looking for hotels in Bilbao or nearby. We will be driving in to Bilbao for one day to see the Guggenheim and historic part of the city. Is it worth it to pay more to stay in the city and park the car, or should we stay outside the city and take the train in for the day?

IMHO, there's nothing in Bilbao that requires an overnight stay. Instead, consider staying in San Sebastian, and training into Bilbao for the day. EuskoTren (the commuter rail network in the Basque country) has at least 3 trains/hour between the two...about 2 1/2 hours travel time. The last train from Bilbao back to San Sebastian leaves about 8:30 pm.
