I need suggestions for reasonable, good hotels near the centers of town in Munich, Salzburg, and Prague. It's for 3 couples. Thanks!
Do you have RS guide books for those places yet? If so, good as they are full of good suggestions that we have used in traveling thru G/A/S this summer.
We stayed at The Icon in Prague 2 years back, and loved it. Great location close to mass transit and old town, nice and clean. We stayed at Hotel Wolf 3 years ago in Salzburg, it was also centrally located, nice and clean.
In Prague, we stayed at Guesthouse Lida. Highly recommended by RS and me! Twice in Salzburg, we stayed at TOP Hotel Mozart. Munich - we always stay near the main train station because of the more reasonable rates. This may not suit you if you are looking for atmosphere. Others can chime it.
check tripadvisor.com. with a minimum of effort in evaluating comments and pictures, you will always make a good choice.
After staying in various hotels near the train station in Munich over the years, we decided to try a new chain hotel in central Munich right next to Sendlingertor. It is new, hip, and cookie cutter like in design but we loved its location much better than the train station hotels. We will probably stay there again this summer when we return to Munich. It is called Motel One :-) and it was less expensive than Rick's nearby recommendation in the Viktuellenmarkt (sp) area. For Prague, we like the Golden Scissors. It's location is a few steps from the Charles Bridge.
Thanks all! And yes I do have RS books on these cities (who would travel without them, right?) I appreciate the suggestions.
In Munich we stayed at the Hilton. It was right above the subway. They even had an elevator so that you didn't have to go outside to get to the subway. From there it was easy to get to most places in/around Munich. Salzburg we stayed at the Best Western there. Nothing fancy but it was clean and convenient.
We visited Munich and Salzburg last year so here is my input: In Salzburg we stated at the ACHAT Plaza zum Hirschen. Great location, an easy walk to most popular sites. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Hotel was maintained well but still had local flavor. Our room was bigger than a standard European hotel room. Had a safe, mini bar/fridge, and very nice bath. Rates were quite reasonable - I'd recommend it. In Munich we stayed at the Helvetia Hotel Munich City Center. It's location was about 40 feet away from a major train stop, and brief walks to most popular destination. It is directly across the street from some strip clubs and such, however, the area did not have a seedy feel to it at all. Most people just seemed to think it all as normal. We felt safe there the entire time. But just fyi. The hotel itself is going for a very modern feel so all the decor and upkeep is new. Very nice room and bath. Excellent breakfast buffet every day. Safe in the room, tv, staff was pretty helpful. Good luck!
For Prague, we loved the Bishops House. The room, breakfast and location were all great.
A hearty second to the recommendation of Guesthouse Lida in Prague! ALso stayed (twice) at Hotel Mozart in Salzburg.
