Any suggestions on Good Hotels in Munich that are close to everything and are not $300 a night? We are planning either May or Sept/Oct time for 2 days then moving on. Thanks
I stayed at Hotel Blauer Bock in 2010. It's a short walk from Marienplatz.
Here is my list (near bottom of page) of accommodations in Munich that have been recommended on this site.
My vote is for Hotel Münchner Kindl. It's a small cozy place with a little pub downstairs. It's not expensive and is within walking distance to all the main places.
If you're going Sept./Oct. remember to reserve very very early because of Octoberfest, which will fill the rooms and hike up the prices.
We stayed at the Blauer Bock as well. Great location and a good breakfast. As mentioned, the prices of hotels in Munich go sky high during Oktoberfest. That is also true during trade fairs. You might want to check room prices in general before you book flights. HRS.com is a good place to get an overview of prices. There are several good basic hotels in Munich. We have stayed at the Bristol Hotel at Sendlinger Tor and are returning there in a week. It is 99 euros per night but ~90 euros/night if we wanted to pay in advance. It is about a 10 minute walk from Marienplatz, the city center. It is at the Sendlinger Tor Ubahn station giving easy access to the whole inner city for a ~10 euro partner-tagekarte (day ticket for up to 5 people). Munich is spread out enough to make their transportation system worthwhile.
BTW I just checked HRS for mid-May. There is a trade fair and the room prices at the Bristol are almost double what I will be paying in December. Sometimes moving your reservation even a few days can make a significant difference in the price.
Tony, Two of the hotels that I prefer are on the list that Lee provided, Hotel Royal and Hotel Uhland. Both are very comfortable and provide fantastic breakfasts! Of the two, Hotel Royal is closer to the station. As the others mentioned, if you'll be there during Oktoberfest time, pre-booking well in advance is highly advisable. Happy travels!
