It seems like the Alfama might be the most interesting part of the city, but there are no hotels there. Or does anyone know of some? How about hotels in Bairro Alto? Any ideas would be much appreciated. We leave in just 3 weeks! Thanks, Michael
There are some hotels close to the castle overlooking Alfama. They are however, a little more expensive. They are Palacio Belmonte (perhaps the most expensive hotel in the city), Solar do Castelo, and Olissipo Castelo.
You may also consider hotels in the Chiado/Bairro Alto areas (look at "Regency Chiado" or the budget "Borges").
I'd also take a look at hotels in or around Avenida da Liberdade...
Check out the hotels section of www.GoLisbon.com
for more information on these and other hotels, as well as plenty of sightseeing ideas.
We stayed at Albergaria Residencial Insulana in RS bk.nr Praca Rossio and very central. I did not think it was smoky as posted. It was perfect and well priced.
