I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Fuessen for 2 adults & 2 16 yr olds. We would like a large Qb or a family room. Any comments on these: Hotel Kurcafe, Hotel Sonne or Hotel Hechten? Thanks
Try this one: http://www.helmerhof.de/ very nice family rooms with 2 bedrooms, small kitchen, living area. Their restaurant serves wonderful food as well as inclusive breakfast. It's in the little village of Schawngau-Horn about 5 minutes drive from Füssen. Horn is a place with lots of rolling pastures, cows, cowbells, bike paths, lake and a beautiful view to the castles - especially at night when the castles are illuminated.
I like Gasthof goldener Greifen, it is right at the main square. They have a really good breakfast (they will even fry you an egg!) Also they have a good restaurant for dinner. I have stayed in the single rooms for less than 50euro. I know they have family rooms but I don't know how much they are.
Hi Barb, We've only had double rooms, but stayed twice and can recommend the Hotel zum Hechten. Paul
Helmerhof, btw, is in Horn, which is the one stop for the bus between Füssen Bhf and the Hohenschwangau Hst. According to the Bahn, Helmerhof is a six minute walk to the Horn Hst. I don't know who to recommend, but in my opinion, you're paying a premium at all those places from being "in" Füssen.
Don't know about the hotels in Fussen, but I also highly recommend the Helmerhof in Horn. It is a wonderful family run inn with a great view of the mountains and Neuschwanstein. It has one of the best breakfasts we had in Germany on our trip last May and has a very good restaurant. Very close to Fussen and the castles. They will even furnish bicycles for those 16 year olds. Balcony rooms on the upper floors have nice mountain views although I don't know if there are any 4 person rooms. Very reasonably priced and friendly, helpful staff.
We love Hotel Hirsch! The rooms are good sized, excellently decorated and the breakfast (included) is one of the best we've had. We've stayed there twice.
