Anz recommendations for hotels in Dresden and Görlitz, Germany? Because of the volcanic ash flight restrictions, I'm stranded here for a few days and thought to visit these two destinations (assuming the Deutsche Bahn isn't overwhelmed with passengers).
We're staying at Hotel Martha Hospiz on an upcoming trip--- a RS rec.
Good luck-- enjoy the "elongated" trip!
We stayed in the Hotel Sorat in Gorlitz and found it just fine. It's in a rehabilitated older building on a nice square within an easy walk of anything you might want to see in Gorlitz. A couple of years ago, the staff was friendly and willing to help, but not so good on English language skills. This may well have changed for the better.
Can't really help you with Dresden, though. We stayed at the Hilton (with points) which is very well situated in the old town but is crazy expensive if you are paying with dollars instead of Hilton points.
We stayed at the Romantik Hotel Tuchmacher in Gorlitz. Good location and nice. Great restaurant.. Don't think it was too expensive. We loved Gorlitz and walked across border into Poland. My wife bought Christmas gifts at a Christmas shop there. We stayed at the Hilton in Dresden. Good location but usual Hilton atmosphere. We had Hilton points. We travelled on the Deutsche Bahn also. Another interesting stop is Bautzen on the way to Gorlitz-See Rick Steves Book.
