Hotels in Barcalona

Looking for a quality hotel, reasonably priced. Anyone know of a gem out there, in a area that would be safe for women traveling.

Having just come back from Barcelona, I will say that I felt safe in Barcelona as a woman traveling. I didn't stay out late at night, or in areas I wasn't comfortable in. I stayed on the Rambla at Hotel Lloret. It was centrally located at the top of the Rambla, making it VERY easy to eat, drink and access transportation. The staff spoke English-mostly, and were very nice and very helpful.
I heard alot of horror stories about Spain- and Barcelona in particular before I went and did not experience anything bad.
I did not do the trip alone, but feel confident that I would feel the same way if I did- as I did venture out by myself many times.
Safe travels!

I think if you're used to being in a big city and keeping your wits around you, you'll feel fine in Barcelona. Two years ago I stayed at the Residencia Australia which is a block from Placa Catalunya. I felt totally safe walking back to my hotel by myself at 1 am or later. I really liked the place too... enough to be going back there when I go back to Barca in a couple of weeks. It is probably a little more 'rustic' than you're looking for - shared bathroom, etc. But the price is great and the people who run it are really nice. I loved being close to everything without being actually on the Ramblas or in another super-touristy area.

Although I traveled with my husband, I do believe you would feel safe at El Jardi. I believe it is in Rick's book. It was simple, but clean, and we really liked the location. It was just a few small blocks off the Ramblas. Our room was basic, with 2 twin beds, a bathroom and a view out on to a little square and a church. We visited in September, and it was not noisy at this time of year. The receptionists helped us and others arrange for a taxi to take us to the airport. The street is otherwise closed to vehicular traffic. Taxis are reasonable and monitored in Barcelona.

I need some suggestions! I will only be in Barcelona for one night as I will be leaving on a cruise the next day. I prefer to stay in a central location where I do not have to travel a long distance in a taxi to reach the ship. The hotel must have an elevator as my dad who is 81 and in a wheelchair will be traveling with me. Does anyone have a wonderful recommendation for a charming hotel in a safe location? Thanks!

Just returned from Barcelona. Felt safe around Plaza C. We stayed at Studios Pelayo Guest House www.studiopelayo.com ..also connected with Tasmania Apt. Owners have several places around Barcelona. We booked apt 2 blocks from Plaza (across from Hotel Leo in Rick's book) and 4 blocks from supermarket on Pelai Avenue. Took 3 keys to get into apt. Great location. Owner speaks English. South of Plaza closer to harbor was "shifty" and the owner told us to stay away from that area.

I was in Barcelona for 4 nights and stayed at Residencia del Mar near Barceloneta metro stop. It's univ/college students apartment flats. I had a reasonably-size, clean room, ensuite bathroom, kitchen, microwave, desk, bed, tv onsite there is laundry, internet, gym, vending machine. The beach is a 2 minute walk and nearby is a casino hotel, olympic village and a zoo. It cost me 57 euros a night during Aug 2007. Staff was really nice and helpful.

Hotel Catedral...at the Catederal, just around the corner. I was there for several days in October. It is new, convenient, with elevator, nice rooms. A taxi can take you to the front door (via the back streets) and it is close to Las Ramblas, and then down to the ships. Highly recommended. It serves a delicious breakfast as well. Check the web site for more information.

Hello

I live next to barcelona and have to stay on a frequent basis in the city.

I always choose hostal residencia australia. As someone mentioned they do have shared facilities but also 4 suites at very good prices. Their location is also excellent as they are about a 3 minute walk from the Ramblas.

Just look them up in google to get their contact info.
