Looking for recommendations for reasonably priced hotel but comfortable near the Frankfurt airport - as we have early morning flight.
When I have an early flight out of FRA, I always stay near the train station in Mainz. The last time (2008) I stayed at Hotel Königshof; I like it better than where I stayed the first times. The price is reasonable (85€ weekday, 75€ Fr-Mo, for a double) for near the airport, they speak English (if that matters, and they have free Wifi and great breakfasts. Königshof is right across the plaza from the Mainz Hbf, only a short walk. There is an S-Bahn to the airport every half hour. It takes 27 minutes. There are also regional trains from Mainz to the airport. Check the German Rail (Bahn) website for schedules.
Four weeks ago we stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn which is located virtually in the airport complex (The Squaire). Part of our reason for staying there was because we came in on the train from the east, there is a station right in, or next to, the airport, and we had no plans to do anything outside of the airport complex other than, like you, fly out the next morning. The rate was 107 euros, nonrefundable, for a double via an online booking site (ie, not the hotel's website). The hotel is convenient and easy to use, but "reasonably priced" is subjective, isn't it?
Have a great trip.
If you have an early morning flight, then I would either stay at one of the airport hotels, like the Hilton Gardens or the Sheraton, or possibly the Steigenberger Airport hotel, which has a free shuttle running every 15 min. Alternative is to stay in Frankfurt at a cheaper hotel, and ride the quick trains to the airport, which only take 11 min. and in the morning from 04:15 on, are running at least every 15 min. if not more often. Train tickets cost 4.10 euro, one way, per person. Try Hotel Monopol, Excelsior Hotel or Hamburger Hof, for the closest hotels, but with a good price.
Last year around this time we stayed at th Ibis Frankfurt Airport. Nice modern hotel. Free shuttle. About $110 USD, breakfast not included. I would recommend it.
