My plan is to go from Salzburg to munich to near the airport. Drop luggage and return to munich for the day. THen next day have an oportunity to kick back and enjoy a nice small town for the day before leaving. Anyon;e use the holiday inn express...Schwaig bei munchen??

I'd look for something in Freising ( click for hotel quide). It's at the end of the S1 S-Bahn line, so you can easily get into Munich Hbf, Marienplatz, etc. Freising would be a nice place to enjoy for a day, including a visit to the world's oldest brewery, Weihenstephen. If you are leaving from the airport later, it's an 18 minute bus ride from the Freising Bhf.

Last October, we stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels in Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden. Always, friendly staff, modern rooms and a buffet breakfast with lots of variety.
We always ate late breakfast (they close it down at 10:30 am) and therefore, we only ate a very light lunch. We highly recommend Holiday Inn hotels.
