We plan to stay in Paris for a few days, then travel to Orly airport in the morning to pick up our rental car. The trip to the Orly airport will probably be during traffic hours (9-10am). We prefer to take a taxi, but may consider RBR.
Is there a preferred area or a hotel in Paris we should stay in, so our travel to Orly will be smoother (e.g., not get stuck in traffic)?

The Orlybus leaves from Place Denfert-Rochereau in the 14th so you could take a cab there from your hotel.
An Air France Express Bus goes non-stop from beside the Gare Montparnasse to Orly every 30 minutes (€11.50). You might consider staying in a hotel near the Montparnasse Tower to be within walking distance of the bus stop. Traffic isn't that bad after 9am, plus the bus can be more reliable than a taxi. The bus route originates at Invalides, if you'd prefer a hotel near there, but, of course, it would take a little more time to get to the airport.
