We plan to be in Munich during Oktoberfest - hudband really wants to do this. I have checked out all the hotels RS suggests - prices are very high, which I did expect...just not that high! I can find cheaper places in the city online but worry about location issues - transportation and security. We will have a car so could stay outside and take train/bus in. Any suggestions? Thanks
if you find a place outside of the town you can use train - it runs 24hrs and very safe. a lot of peple on the weekend, but week days are not too crowded.
When we go to Munich we stay in the hotel Imperial, 463 Landsberger Strasse Tel: 089 820 7980. It is on the outskirts and therefore a lot cheaper, (although prices will rise during the Oktoberfest) There is a tram stop directly outside the hotel with direct links to the centre and trams run until the early hours. It has (limited) car parking facilities but we have never had a problem. Arrive early, bag a space and leave the car there until you check out. It is by far the cheapest hotel we have found in the area and we have been going regularly to Munich for 15 years. It is clean and wholesome and the breakfast is good for the price. We have never had an evening meal there, prefering to eat in town, so unfortunately I can't comment on the kitchen. It is NOT in the most picturesque part of town! but we felt perfectly safe walking around late at night.
Thanks for that suggestion - that sounds just like what we are looking for.
